Titaguas, Valencian Community
We had heard about the famous Bercolón waterfall for some time. So, we spent a weekend in the Titaguas area to approach this beautiful hidden corner. The Bercolon waterfall, located in the municipality of Tuéjar, is an idyllic waterfall situated in the interior of the Valencian Community, Spain. It is part of a route starting from the Zagra picnic area that reveals the ancient Tosquilla fish farm in Titaguas and the Bercolon waterfall.
The trail is around 5 kilometers long and begins at the picnic area, with some difficult sections that are not suitable for strollers, animals, or young children, particularly in the Bercolon area. However, the distance is extended to 13 kilometers from the free camping area El Molinillo. The waterfall is created by limestone tuffs, which allow access to a small bell-shaped cavity below. It is a stunning location referred to as “La Cueva de Bercolon” by the locals.
Here is a list of files that you can download and use for your outing. Check them out and let us know how we can improve.

This track starts from the Camping area El Molinillo, but you can also start from the picnic area at La Tosquilla as this track passes through that area.

We love getting away from home on weekends and there’s nothing better than spending the night in a camping tent, far from civilization, with limited mobile signal. The Valencian Community has several free camping areas equipped with toilets, grills, and water across its three provinces. Prior permission must be requested through the website of the Generalitat. We have visited most camping areas in the Community as they are situated strategically near trails, ferratas, and canyons.
The free campsite, El Molinillo, is a few kilometers away from Titaguas and approximately 100km from Valencia. The area is not easily accessible and is not recommended for vehicles with low ground clearance. Access to the site is through several forest trails. After following Google Maps, which led us through a rough access road on Calle Proyecto 14 just before Titaguas, we suggest taking the road after the village of Titaguas. While the route is slightly longer in distance, the forest road is in much better condition.
The area is quite roomy and equipped with multiple paella grills, sinks, restrooms, and containers. Unfortunately, there is no shower available which can be inconvenient for longer stays. We were able to make do with a 2-liter water bag, but Decathlon offers low-priced portable and camping showers, as well as camping shower cabins, which are ideal for this type of stay.
To reach the Bercolón waterfall, there are multiple trails available. You can park in the nearby vicinity and walk a few kilometers to arrive at the destination. Alternatively, the hike from the free camping area / recreation area El Molinillo allows for a pleasant walk across viewpoints and other water bodies. We suggest following a trail of about 13 kilometers that offers splendid views of the canyon of the Turia River from the top of the Los Conquetes viewpoint and takes you past the historic La Tosquilla fish farm. We opted to retrace our steps, but there’s also the option of taking a longer loop (approximately 20km) that passes through the municipality of Titaguas.
The hike itself is fairly easy and suitable for everyone. However, be mindful of the approach to the waterfall, which is a bit more “risky”, to avoid falling or slipping.
We begin our hike from the camping area, following a wide uphill road for 2km until we reach the forest. After a short distance, we reach the Los Conquetes viewpoint, offering panoramic views of the Turia River canyon. Descending from there, we find a forest track which we follow for 3km. We hike past the old fish farm of La Tosquilla and other water sources. Along the way, we pass through picnic areas and parking spaces.
After crossing the Turia bridge, we find ourselves just a few meters away from the waterfall. As the path is not clearly marked, we suggest following our track to avoid getting disoriented. The Bercolón waterfall can be reached by descending the lower portion of the waterfall. To access this hidden site, you must ascend to the top, circling the rock on your right. A small path amidst rocks and trees will become visible. Look out for slippery rocks near the waterfall.
Upon reaching the site, you’ll be treated to a beautiful waterfall. Although it is narrow, you can swim and take a break before leaving.
Tip: If you like via ferrata, we suggest you enjoy being in the area to do La Lámpara, the via ferrata level K2/K3 of Titaguas. It is a fun and entertaining via ferrata, with single cable and plank bridges, K3 level overhanging flanks and beautiful views of the locality of Titaguas.
The area of Aras de Olmos, located a few kilometers from Titaguas, has gained well-deserved fame for having one of the most spectacular skies in Europe for stargazing, proudly holding the Starlight Destination certification.
